Animal activists criticize rodeo for treatment of horses
Associated Press - December 15, 2007 LAS VEGAS (AP) - Animal rights activists are taking aim at the National Finals Rodeo. A group known as SHARK says it has video of a cowboy using a device on horses leaving the chute. SHARK believes the device may be an electrical shock and is a violation of humane treatment rules. A National Finals Rodeo spokeswoman says the rules allow cowboys to use "harmless encouragement" to initiate bucking before a horse leaves the chute. Cindy Schonholtz says a small shock is permitted but only when applied to the animal's hip or shoulders. SHARK stands from Showing Animals Respect and Kindness. Tonight is the final night of the rodeo. ### |
