A Former CFD Volunteer and Participant Sends a Plea to Cheyenne

Since SHARK began exposing the cruelty and corruption at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo in 2005, we have had many, many good people from Cheyenne and around the world contact us with supportive thoughts. Below is one example, but a very powerful one.

Stephanie Beeken is a "hometown girl". She was her class Valedictorian, and is now a loving mother of four. The Cheyenne Frontier Days was a big part of her life and Stephanie was a participant and volunteer. Her respect for the CFD Rodeo has been eroded and replaced by disgust, regret, and sadness for her town.

I grew up on a farm/ranch in North Dakota. I rode bareback broncs on the Indian Circuit for two years. As a former ranch veterinarian, I evaluated and treated livestock for 8 years. After watching these videos of animals being injured at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo, every injury should have been evaluated by a veterinarian. Those animals that could not be saved should have been either humanely euthanized or sent to slaughter. The rest should have been evaluated and treated or evaluated and released by a veterinarian. Some of the animals might recover with extended rest if the rodeo would not continue to reuse them before they were properly healed.

SHARK Sued for Educating CFD Performers

UPDATE! A federal judge in Wyoming has dismissed the case against SHARK. Whether we will have to continue this fight in another state remains to be seen. Read more about it HERE.

As a result of Matchbox Twenty and Carrie Underwood canceling their performances at the Cheyenne Frontier Days (CFD) Rodeo, the booking agency that works with the rodeo has filed a lawsuit against--—not the performers—-SHARK.

Yes, you read that correctly. Rodeo folks love to wrap themselves in the American flag and sing the Star Spangled Banner before every rodeo, but apparently they think our country’s freedoms apply only to them.

Open Letter to Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo

Still No Reply to this Letter

In July of 2008, SHARK met with members of the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo committee (CFD). Numerous issues were discussed in a productive meeting. Among those present were Bob Budd, chairman of CFD's animal care committee. 

One of the assurances made to SHARK was that lines of communication would be kept open. Apparently Mr. West has had a change of heart and now feels that no communication is the best policy.
