SAND ISLAND, WA – An international animal protection watchdog group has released a video exposing the cruelty, secrecy and misconduct of three Federal agencies in a tax -unded slaughter of thousands of native birds off the Pacific Coast – and wasting taxpayer money trying to cover it up.
"The US Army Corps of Engineers, the US Dept. of Agriculture's Wildlife Services and the US Coast Guard are working together to keep the public from witnessing what is happening to animals held in public trust, on public waters, with our money," said SHARK (SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness)
SHARK’s operation on the Columbia River, to document the slaughter of cormorants by the USDA/Wildlife Services, has been peaceful and non-violent - and incredibly successful.
While we were on the water, the USDA boat was not shooting birds. How then did the USDA and the their partner, the Army Corps of Engineers react? They went to the Coast Guard and asked for a so-called “Safety Zone,” and the Coast Guard gave it to them.
This exclusionary zone meant that we were not allowed to come within 500 yards of the USDA’s boat - a ridiculously large area that had nothing to do with safety and everything to do with the government wanting to make sure no one saw their bloody work. That’s how shameful this slaughter is.
The public has an absolute right to know what our government is doing to our wildlife, and they must not be allowed to suppress the First Amendment rights of its citizens. That is why SHARK has filed a lawsuit in federal court to have the exclusionary zone overturned.
SHARK is represented by Bryan Pease, who is running for City Attorney of San Diego, CA.

A teenager hired to humanely kill birds injured by hunters at the Philadelphia Gun Club has been charged with animal cruelty after an animal-rights activist filmed him last month throwing injured pigeons and pelting them it with rocks and ice.
The boy, 17, of Bridgeton, N.J., was working for a subcontractor hired by the riverside club in Bensalem to retrieve and euthanize birds wounded during a Jan. 30 pigeon shoot, Bensalem Police Lt. William McVey said. His name wasn't released because he is a juvenile.
Activists from SHARK (SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness) have long protested the semiannual shoots, in which hunters gun down live birds released from boxes. A SHARK activist filmed the teen chasing injured birds on the riverbank, throwing them to the ground, pelting them with rocks and ice and jabbing them with sticks in violation of state animal-cruelty laws.
In our last update we told you about the US Meat Animal Research Center, (USMARC) which performs cruel experiments on cows, lambs and pigs, and corrupt Clay County Sheriff Jeff Franklin, who made an illegal traffic stop to harass us after we flew our Angel aircraft to videotape the facility. Read the New York Times article about this facility here: U.S. Research Lab Lets Livestock Suffer in Quest for Profit
In our latest video exposing Sheriff Franklin we show even more lies and hypocrisy.
While returning to Illinois from a Pennsylvania pigeon shoot site, the SHARK team spotted an injured goose. Watch this video to learn the story of that rescue.
