Can Illinois' Bureaucrats Pass 2nd Grade English?Copley News Service reporter Doug Finke wrote a column in The Beacon News exposing not only Gov. Blagojevich's underhanded behavior in budget matters (in addition to "Blago's" decision to invite cruel, cowardly rodeo criminals into the Land of Lincoln), but also the lack of basic grammar skills by Illinois State Fair manager and rodeo coordinator Amy Bliefnick, a Blagojevich appointee. Too bad Governor Blagojevich chose to hire patronage cronies instead of competent and ethical personnel. As the Illinois Department of Agriculture and State Fair has proven, the governor's administration is staffed by people who are either hopelessly corrupt, terminally stupid, or both. Amy, if you are trying to make Illinois look like a backwoods state populated by morons, you're doing a great job. Otherwise, please consider resigning.
THE BEACON NEWS
Ms. Bliefnick is once again making a call for "community input" for the Illinois State Fair. Please take a moment to send an email to statefair@agr.state.il.us to inform Ms. Bliefnick that cruelty contests should not be promoted as entertainment by the state of Illinois.
Published 7/25/06 Back to school The National High School Finals rodeo rolled into Springfield last week for its annual contest. Springfield rolled out the welcome mat, but state officials were welcoming rodeo contestants and fans for a while before that. On the organization's Web site — and thus available to anyone in the world — was a greeting from Amy Bliefnick, manager of the Illinois State Fair. Here are her comments, verbatim: "I'm pleased to welcome back to Springfield, the National High School Rodeo Association and the 2006 National High School Finals Rodeo. This unique event bring thousands high school age competitors, to Springfield from 44 states, Canada and Australia. We especially welcome the competitor's family and friends to Springfield as they support these outstanding young men and women. "A special thank you to the hundreds of volunteers whose hard work makes the rodeo a success. And of course without the assistance of our corporate friends the rodeo would not be possible. "If you are a competitor you will find information on this Web site about what you will need to make your visit to Springfield a success. If you are a family member or friend you will find links to lodging and Springfield area attractions. You will also find the rodeo schedule and daily event guide. If you are interested in volunteering at the rodeo, you find information about how to become involved." Good thing Springfield isn't hosting a grammar rodeo.- Doug Finke is a reporter for Copley News Service in Springfield. |
