Litigation, loss of sponsors threaten charity rodeo: Deputies group seeks seed money benefit

WATSONVILLE -- Several major sponsors have pulled their support from a rodeo planned for Oct. 1-2 at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds as litigation threatens the event.

Mike MacDonald, the driving force behind the Santa Cruz County Deputy Sheriff's Charity Rodeo, is turning to the community for help with startup costs.

A hearing on legal challenges to the County Fair board's approval of the rodeo is scheduled for Sept. 27 in Sacramento Superior Court, and a decision could cancel the event.
